For those of you that do not know, Discmania holds combines throughout the year that test you on a range of tests in the world of Disc Golf. In 2017 in Michigan, Bartosz "Bart" Kowalewski, who alreayd is a media sponsor with Discmania, showed up and competed to the best of his ability. He ended up getting second but still ending up with a sponsorship deal from Discmania! He has a great story to tell and is well worth the read! Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

Well, back in 2012 I walked into a sports store and stumbled upon some discs. It intrigued me, so I purchased some and started to throw them (I believe I purchased an Innova Monarch and Eagle). A couple months later I was informed that there are courses with baskets to play at. The closest course to my house was/is Stony Creek. The course has a mixture of long and short holes and is pretty challenging. Learning on a course like this quickly forced me to learn every shot in the game (FH, BH, overhand, etc.)

2) Who...

I always try and reach out to talk to players that I do not know a lot about. So, after going through a ton of Instagram pages I found Discraft team member Christina Linthicum. After talking with Christina and getting to ask her these questions, I think that her story is awesome and definitely worth the read! Check it out and enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

My older brothers first brought me out to play with them after they started playing. When I left home for college, I pretty much stopped playing until I got with my now husband. He was a friend of theirs through disc golf. He helped me correct my form, and I improved dramatically after that.

2) Who or what inspires you to continue to play?

Knowing that I can be better than I am inspires me to keep at it. I guess I feel like I have something to prove. Also, I want to make my husband proud. The support I get from other disc golfers really helps motivate me too!

3) What made you want to go pro?

I never played...

There has been a lot of talk recently about the DGI group. The agency to help the sport and professionals alike. But, there is another DGI that came out recently and it is led by Prodigy Team member Will Schusterick. Disc Golf Instruction or DGI is something on its own and is here to help the sport of Disc Golf grow. Check it out below and enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

Growing up I played travel baseball and AAU basketball. When I grew out of the league  I had to find something to do, and disc golf came into my life.

2) Who inspires you to continue to play?

All of my family. I wake up everyday wanting to make them proud and do something productive to help this amazing sport grow.

3) What made you want to go pro?

I want to be the best at anything Im doing. What made me want to go pro was just the "want" to be the best.

4) What is it like to get sponsored?

Being sponsored is a good thing, although I see players act as if it is necessary to improve their game. Bein...

As I continue to reach out to people, I get the opportunity to learn more and more about various people and places. One of the newest people I have talked to and interviewed is Lasse Jannsson of Sweden and who throws for Discmania. He was a great person to talk to and get to know. Check out his story and enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

- I was first introduced to disc golf in the mid 90’s by my uncle who played all the frisbee sports. In 1999 new beginner friendly course was put in in my home town and a few of my friends and I started playing more often. After a few years of playing a couple of times a year I bought a few more discs and started to practice in the field. I got good fast and started to go to weeklys, this was around 07. My first PDGA tournament was in -08 where I played AM1. In 09 I went Pro and haven’t looked back since.

2) Who or what inspires you to continue to play?

- It’s just passion to the sport and the curiosity of what it will bring around the...

Another name that I see popping up in my local area is Olympia, WA native and Latitude 64 thrower Chandler Fry. First off, he has a phenomenal name. Second, he is a great guy and has a great story. So, when you get the chance you should give his answers a read and learn more about him. Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

In 2002, my dad and I were walking around our neighborhood in Olympia, WA, and we saw some college students throwing ultimate lids at garbage cans and telephone poles. We asked them what they were doing and they told us they were playing "object golf." My dad looked into it and discovered the best sport on earth, which of course is disc golf. We found a course nearby called Milo McIver State Park, bought some Discraft Ultrastars and gave it shot! Looking back on it now, its pretty funny that the first course I ever played was the 10,000 or so foot monster that still punishes me to this day. I remember feeling exhausted after the round, but excited to pla...

Growing my reach is something I want to do. With that, I try and find groups in other states to be a part of and help get those local players and professionals a little recognition. One of the newest groups I found is a group in Montana and I wanted to talk to the club founder. Brian Bjortomt is that man and he was an amazing person to talk to and has a great story to tell. Give it a read and enjoy!

Brian’s start in the sport we all know, and love is a bit more unconventional than most. As Brian told me, “I got my start in Disc Golf the day after a friend’s bachelor party.” He later explained that “it was an 18-hole course in Winona, MN called the Willows.” Not only that, he told me “they gave me an old piranha putter, I was hooked ever since.” That is a great way to get your start into the sport, with friends. Continuing to play is the tricky part. But, Brian has found a way to keep his mind and game focused. He told me “the young guns who are killing it and throwing it far, that’s wha...

There are very few things I can say about Paige Pierce. She is one of the younger players in the sport but clearly one of the most dominant on the women's side of Disc Golf. She is crushing the game and the only way to go is up for her! This is worth the read and lets you learn a little bit more about her! Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

- My dad took me out with him every weekend when I was really young as our father daughter time and it quickly became my passion!

2) Who inspires you to continue to play?

- I would say everyone that sends me an encouraging or supportive message. I get lots of stories sent to me from parents talking about their kids and that is very inspiring!

3) What made you want to go pro?

- Well, this is actually a simple answer. I had moved past the point of playing advanced, I needed to challenge myself and compete against the best to become better.

4) What was it like to win your first event?

- Each event is different, but the first big one you...

There are many forms of entertainment for the Disc Golf community  to get their news and stories from. One of the ones that is making waves in the world of the sport is The Disc Golf Show. The show is ran by Justin and Nick currently and they do a great job of what they do. They were great people to talk to and worth the read when you have the chance! Enjoy!

1) How did each of you get into Disc Golf?

I played quite a while ago, probably over 20 years ago at my local course, Shady Oaks, in Orangevale, CA. I was introduced to the sport by a very close friend.

I also introduced Justin, and James (a previous Disc Golf Show host in the earlier years), to the sport shortly after becoming friends with him around 6 years ago or so, maybe more.

2) Who inspires each of you to continue to play?

Nick - I don't get to play as much as I used to, but just watching all the pros out there, male and female, and seeing the possibilities keep me going out as much as I can with my day-to-day job and family.

A household name in the Montana community is Christian Dietrich. He is known for being the king of the elevation game and is also a Lawyer when he isn't Disc Golfing. He has an impressive background and an impressive story to back it up. When you get the chance, please give his story the read, it is definitely worth it! Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

I grew up playing competitive soccer and running track, but always enjoyed throwing around an ultimate disc and played a good amount of ultimate at my high school.  I played disc golf a few times casually when I was home from high school (I went to a boarding school in New Hampshire), but started playing more often when I stopped playing soccer and track midway through college due to injuries and the intense time commitment of Division I sports.  Disc golf is a really popular casual sport in the college town where I grew up, Missoula, Montana, so just about everyone has played our beautiful local courses at least a few...

There are so many places in this country that have huge Disc Golf presences that I had no idea about until I started this blog. One of the more recent places I found out from a friend of mine was in Cincinnati, OH. More specifically, The Nati Disc Golf shop was a place he wanted me to check out. So, I looked them up and got the chance to talk to Jason Kerl who is one of two workers for this store. He has some awesome things to describe about Ohio Disc Golf and especially Cincinnati. Give it a read and enjoy!

So, a little bit about Jason, his career started with Disc Golf some time ago. He started his journey when he was 11 years old as he says, “about 30 years ago my family reunion was at a Disc Golf course.” The course is now one of his favorites which is “Lincoln Ridge in Independence, KY.” From that point on he played there and played in rec for a long time and just hung out with friends. But, in 2004 “I joined my local club and in 2005 I played in my first tournament.” Which made hi...
