Team Captain- Kymen Modig Q and A
As I learn more and more about the different Disc Golf companies I have come to know the individuals on Team Kastaplast more and more. I have interviewed one of the creators being Jonas Lindberg and one of the team members which was GMAC. The next individual who I got the pleasure of interviewing and talking to was team captain, Kymen Modig. He was great to talk to and his responses are below! Enjoy!
1) How did you get into Disc Golf?
Me and my dad first tried it out one day in August year 2000 when I was 11 years old.
2) Who inspires you to continue to play?
Myself. I want to keep pushing myself so become the best I can be, hopefully at one time, the best!
3) What made you want to start accepting money?
It costs money to play tournaments, to practice, to travel and so on so didn’t see any reason not to accepting money to help me pay for everything that helps me become a better player.
4) What is it like to be sponsored?
It’s very nice. I see it as a confirmation that I’m doing something right and that companies want me to be recognized with them.
5) What is it like to be on Team Kastaplast?
Great! As Team Captain I get to try prototypes and being part of the process of making the team. It’s also very exciting to see both the team and the brand grow and see how big it can become.
6) Favorite Disc?
Berg, wouldn’t trade it for anything.
7) Favorite Course?
Järva, Stockholm, Sweden. Was awarded finest park in Sweden, not disc golf park, finest park all categories.
8) Where do you do your normal tour?
Sweden, but hopefully more of Europe soon.
9) What advice can you give to players who want to step up their game?
Practice. Stop playing casual rounds and start practice something special like putting, approaches, forehand and so on like 30 minutes a day.
10) What can we expect from you going into the 2018 season?
A stronger, better and more consistent player with the same love for the sport and always willing to learn more!
11) What’s a normal day look like for you?
I work at Discsport and Kastaplast so I pack the orders for both companies. Purchase new discs/articles to Discsport, restocking them both and then some practice with discs or gym. After work I come home and enjoy some family time.
12) What’s it like to be a part of so many different teams?
Of course it feels great, I would be lying if I said something else. But I answer like I did on the previous question regarding being a sponsored player: It’s a great feeling that so many company's wants me to be a part of them.
13) Is there anything else you would like people to know about you that they may not?
I’ve been in the National Team of Sweden in U20, U23 and Open in Ultimate Frisbee. Played Ultimate 2003-2014 and during that time I just played a tournament or 2 a year but in the end of 2014 I decided to give Disc Golf all my attention. I have 2 kids and fiancee, love to watch European football, hockey and to cook without recipes, just winging it.
I would like to thank Kymen for responding so quickly to me and letting me ask him these questions! You can find out more about him on Instagram and Facebook both can be found by searching Kymen. Look out for more interviews coming soon! Thank you!
