On the rise- Peter McBride Q and A
The sport of Disc Golf is growing each and every day. Which is great for the sport itself and is letting new players to shine in the professional scene. A newer player to the professional scene but not to the sport is Peter McBride. I got the chance to interview him and ask him some questions about his game and career. Enjoy!
1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?
In PEclass in 5th grade we threw to cones with basic frisbees. I knew there was a course down the street from my house so I asked my mom to buy me some discs and ended up playing all summer with some friends.
2) What was it like to go pro? What made you do it?
It's definitely a big step. It really showed me that anything was possible on the course. I won the 2013 masters cup in Am1 and then placed 12th in the NT the next weekend and talked to a few pros and decided to accept cash.
3) How does it feel to be sponsored?
It feels good to have a company support you and to be able to represent them on the course.
4) What is it like working with Legacy Discs?
It's good working with them. Its very nice to have Steve and Bamba making the discs. They're both world class players and if they wouldn't throw it they wouldn't make it
5) What are looking forward to most improving for next years tour?
This year I learned a lot about myself and how I need to prepare for next year so I'm very excited to bring that into the off season. Basically more putting, field work and cross training.
6) Who was your biggest influence and inspiration within the sport while you were just starting?
Very early influence would be Matt and Brian Anderson and Don Applegate.
Also Paul McBeth and Josh Anthon were some of the first top pros I saw first hand absolutely shred. That was 4 to 5 years ago and they're still two of my favorite people to watch compete.
7) Favorite Disc?
I really like the ghost since it'll hold any shape I want.
8) Favorite Course?
Probably Bohart Ranch in the mountains above Bozeman. One of the most beautiful and fun courses I've played
. 9) What advice can you give to players who want to take their game to the next level?
Practice your putting and focus. 80% of the players in the pro field can win any event but it's the putting and mental game the is the real separator. Find the space that allows your brain to turn off and your muscle memory to take over. Visualize and execute.
10) Is there anything else you would like people to know about you that they may not?
Hm. My other passions are mountain biking, rock climbing, running, music and reading.
I would like to thank Peter McBride for giving me the opportunity to interview him and ask him these questions. If you want to know more, find him on all forms of social media to keep up to date with what he is doing!
