SHOE INSERT FOR DIABETICS

This is the home for my Senior Project. My project is a new sleeker and more comfortable insert for shoes. But, this project is designed for patients who have lost their toes to diabetes. There are plenty of other situations for inserts, but, the motivation comes from helping those who have diabetes.

Some technical merits that will come out of it are using SolidWorks and casting potentially out of a composite or rubber like material. I would 3D print an initial model then mold one to use for testing.

One of the requirements for testing is a kicking force of 15 lbs. This is to simulate a person running their foot into a wall like stubbing their toe. Which could be higher than 15 lbs but 15 is a benchmark.

An optimization opportunity within the project is optimizing the use of SolidWorks to create the 3D model. 3D modeling is getting used more and more and is a cheap and effective way to mold a product.

There will be a couple challenges along the way through the project. One of the biggest being getting measurements for the project and finding the right dimensions to use.  Also, testing the project in a real world sense and not through calculations and machine testing in the labs.

As far as industry there may be no help, but, I would need help from classmates and professors. I have not 3D printed something in a long time and I would need help with the initial mold pouring for the final project.
