As the sport grows each and every year, we will see newer companies coming into the sport. At least, we hope it happens for the sake of growth. Well, one of these new additions to the sport is Disc Golf Initiative or the DGI group. This is professional sports agency and brings a whole new life to the sport of Disc Golf. I got the chance to talk to Mark Barber who is partner, VP, and general manager of this group and pick his brain about Disc Golf and what the DGI group is. Enjoy!

To start off, Mark’s passion for the sport started at a young age. Now, not to age him but, he told me “I started playing frisbee golf in 1979 at young life camp in South Carolina.” He was there for a week and explained “that is all I wanted to do, was just go throw.” After young life camp he took his love for the game home with him. There was not an actual course in the area where he lived so he told me “we made up a course in our neighborhood, mailboxes, signs, anything. I still know the course by heart.” He...

As I continue to reach out in my local area, I learn about more and more new and great people. One of the newest people I got the chance to meet and interview is Ryan Lane! Ryan throws for Innova and plays a huge role in his community in Oregon! I am so glad I got to talk to Ryan and get his story out there. Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

I grew up playing both golf and Frisbee but didn’t mix the two until my college days in the late 90’s.  My freshman year, I designed a campus course with light poles as targets so we could play at night.  We always played with lids, but as the layout grew more popular we started to see all sorts of unique discs in the air.  I borrowed a Discraft Shadow and a Marauder from one of the guys and was instantly hooked.

2) Who or what inspires you to continue to play?

About a year later I met Coury Coates (pdga #18175) at the restaurant where we worked, the Traveler’s Club International Restaurant and Tuba Museum....

Learning about all these new stories brings me an immense amount of joy and I love getting to tell the stories of the people I meet. I say this because I was recently asked what this blog brings me, and of course I had to say joy. The next person that I got the pleasure of talking to was none other than Sara Lamberson. Sara throws for team Innova and has a slew of information about her that is worth the read and worth taking the time out of your day to learn. So, when you can, please give it a read and enjoy!

As I began talking to Sara, I learned quickly that she is a very competitive and very intelligent individual. Her start into disc golf began in college where she was studying to be a classical piano major. She told me, “I had been playing ultimate frisbee since high school and played on my co-ed college team at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.” So, she has been around disc sports since around 2003, but never the sport of disc golf. Her piano professor was also the track and fiel...

Most of the interviews that I do are based around interviewing pros and local players within my area, for now at least. But, there is someone who I noticed posting on Instagram that I just had to interview and talk about. This person was Sam Cooper who runs the Imhereforthechainbang Instagram page and who is recently making his own company through that page. I had to talk to him and hear what stories he had to tell and his story in general. Enjoy!

A little bit about the man behind the Chain Bang before we dig into his company. Sam started his Disc Golf career when he was younger. He told me “I used to live across the street from a course in Rocklin, CA. I bought a Disc from a local gas station and would play every now and then.” I wish the gas stations in Washington sold discs, that would be the dream. So, he played when he could, but an unfortunate event happened. He told me “about 4 years ago I lost my job, so I had more time to play.” It is never good to lose a job, but he made the m...

It is not too often that a professional athlete has a job that is not closely related to sports. However, Holly "Finale" Finley is a professional Disc golfer and a successful model as well. Holly throws for Innova and her story is as unique as she is. So, give it a read and learn more the Disc Golfer by day, Model by night! Enjoy!

1)  How did you get into Disc golf?

I played once in 2008 with some friends and I was horrible.  It was sky rockets in flight, afternoon delight and the immediate hard left hook crash into the ground.
I travelled the world working as a fashion model in Europe for many years and decided living out a suitcase was getting stale.  I signed with a new modeling agency in Chicago, (Elite Models) and moved from TN to the midwest.  As a model, you don't work every day so you do have a fair amount of free time.  I was looking for activities to fill my days and Disc Golf came to mind.  I jumped online, looked up a course and a play it again sports and headed out to my new...

Not only do I get to talk to and interview people from Disc companies, but I get to talk to companies from all parts of Disc Golf. One of the companies that I have seen recently from the last two years is DUDE Clothing. When I wanted to talk to DUDE I got to talk to the “dude” behind DUDE, CEO and founder Chris Finn. A little bit about Chris is that he is the founder of Dude Clothing, Event organizer of the Aussie Open. As well as a course designer of over 20 courses in Australia including the Mundaring Disc Golf Park, and a multiple times Australian Disc Golf and Frisbee Champion. He was an amazing person to talk to and had a great amount to tell about the DUDE clothing brand.

Chris’ story into Disc Golf is unique to his person just like all of ours are. To start off, Chris told me that “I was 11 in western Australia and grew up 200 feet from a Disc Golf hole.” The course he told me about just so happens to be “The oldest Disc Golf course in Australia.” So, after being around the...

The stories people share with me are always astounding and great to hear. Talking to Michael was awesome, I am so glad I get to share his story. The biggest surprise came when he told me that he was not sponsored, he currently sits at a 1000 rating. I am amazed that this man has no sponsor but I hope that by the end of the year he finally gets one. Now, I mean sponsor by Discs, he does have other sponsors. Regardless, give this story a read and I think you will truly enjoy it!

1) So, how did you get your start into Disc Golf?

In 2002 I was 2 years clean from crystal meth. My girl broke up with me literally days before Christmas. I wanted to relapse. My buddy saw what I was going threw and wanted to talk. He took me to Cornwall park to play frolf . I was upset and didn't really want to play. I never threw a frisbee before let alone a disc. He told me to throw it like a baseball. I threw it ...it smashed right into the basket. 137 foot thumber ace. My first throw ....no bullshit. I was ins...

There are local heroes across all countries in this world for the sport of Disc Golf. I know of the ones within the United States and I wanted to broaden my horizon of the sport. Then, someone gave me the name of Canadian legend Dave Ross. Dave Ross was the team captain for the World Team Disc Golf Canadian team. He throws for Latitude 64 and is an all around great guy. Give his story a read and enjoy!

Just like many Disc Golf players, Dave’s story begins when he is younger. Dave told me that “there was a little 9 hole course nearby where we went and played every day.” He would play with his friends because “it was 1989 and we had just graduated high school.” He needed something to do right out of high school to Disc Golf filled that void. While he had fun playing with his friends, he needed something more. He told me “the first 6-8 months were just fine playing with friends was fun, but then I won my first tournament.” After that, he says, “I was hooked from that day.” So, he caught th...

Tyler Gamboa is a great person to talk to and learn about. His family man mentality is awesome and you can see his personality and character through his words. He may not be sponsored by a major company but he still loves the sport nonetheless and wants to help make it grow through a fun spirit and kindness. That mentality is a great sight to see and I look forward to seeing it in person one day. Enjoy his words and his story!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

I got my start into disc golf back in 2012 around when my younger brother went into the military. He had been playing for a few years and finally got me to play before he left. Played a few times and got hooked. I used his discs until he was stationed and by then I had already gotten discs for myself.

2) Who inspires you to continue to play?

I’m continually inspired to play by my brother since we are always competing against each other in every sport, especially disc golf. My daughter and my girlfriend also do beca...

As I expand my reach in my home state of Washington there are so many people I have not met yet but there are a few I am learning more and more about. One of these new individuals is Tri-Cities own Cameron Sheehan. Cameron throws for team prodigy and is an up and coming player within the sport and has a bright 2018 looking out for him! He was an awesome guy to talk to so enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

I'm not sure how long ago it was, but my first ever disc golf round happened when i was younger, maybe 14 or 15. My father took my brothers and I out to Columbia Park with his friend, Steve Carson, and his sons. A few years later, when I was around 18 I found my dad's bag of discs in a closet in our house. This was when I was just starting college and it turned out Columbia Park was halfway between our house and the college. So, in April of 2011 I started golfing every day after classes on my way home.

2) Who inspires you to continue to play?
