So, a little while ago I came in contact with the General Manager of Gateway Disc Sports Mason Bailey. After we talked he wanted me to try out and review some of Gateway’s newest discs in their newest Diamond plastic. So, I went ahead and agreed and threw the discs as much as I could over the past couple of weeks. But, I did it in a way that I had never seen before. I did a blind bag test.

Now, what that means is that for the past 5 or so rounds the only discs that I used were the Gateway Disc Sports discs that I had received from Mason. I had no prior knowledge and had no intention of looking anything up about these discs. I figured that was the fairest method and that way I could get the best review out of these discs. So, without any delay, check out my reviews and opinions on the Journey, Ninja, Prophecy, and Wizard. Enjoy!

Journey (12/6/-2/1)

Obviously, this is a high-speed driver, but, it feels like nothing else I have felt before. Which, was a common theme amongst these discs, they...

In the beginning of May and the end of April there is a tournament being held in a little town in Texas being ran by a man named Matt Siri. This tournament has been around for several years now and is in the honor of the great Nick Hyde. So, after hearing about this tournament and getting to know Matt a little more I wanted to share about the tournament he runs aptly called the Nick Hyde Memorial. Give it a read and enjoy!

To start, there has been a tournament in that area for roughly 10 years or so now. But, about 4 years ago Matt decided to change the name to the Nick Hyde Memorial. He told me “once Nick died it was a no brainer to make it a big memorial tournament. I went to the family and closest friends to get the approval and name change.” After that, he made the tournament what it is today. It is a huge tournament in Texas and has been a stopping place for professionals throughout the years and continues to grow under the moniker of the Nick Hyde Memorial.

Since the tournament has...

We all enjoy growing the sport, and I assume that we all have a passion for the sport as a whole. For someone like Scott Withers, it is something that he tries to show and grow as much as he can. Scott throws for Innova and has an amazing story to tell. So if you can, please give his story a read and enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

I began playing early in high school.  We had a small local course within walking distance from my house.  My dad and I would go up with friends as something we could do to spend time together.  Naturally, we were both competitive so we kept playing and playing trying to get better.  I remember we had a DX XD and a Discraft X2 that we shared for a while before we bought new discs from a local store.  I still have the X2 sitting on my wall today as a reminder of how I got started.  As I moved into my later high school years I had a group of friends that would meet at the course every day in the summers.  We were all still young, didn't have...

With all the media going to events there are bound to be names on videos that you may not recognize right off of the bat. One of these individuals was Daniel Runnvik who was shown in CCDG's coverage of the WTO at the beginning of this year. He showed that he is a true competitor and showed well at the event. He was gracious enough to answer my questions and he has a great story! Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

My tattoo artist and friend, Mikael Persson, dragged me to the local course in Falun, Sweden one rainy autumn day back in 2011. I, as most others, though that “throwing a frisbee” couldn’t be that hard but little did I know. Despite the weather, I got hooked immediately, and have played all year around since. I have always been jealous of the never-ending summers in SoCal, so it feels great to be here now.

2) Who or what inspires you to continue to play?

My biggest drive to go play is to get out in nature and get away from daily stress, and all the beautiful cou...

A towel is something that is a necessity in a bag but is not usually thought about in too much depth. Usually just there to dry the discs, wipe them off, and continue your round. However, Scott Bresee and his team over at FlighTowel and revolutionized the world of Disc Golf towels. Give this article a read to learn more about Scott and the new wave of towel technology, the FlighTowel. Enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

My brother talked me into going to Cascades Gateway park on July 24, 2016.  I came to the course equipped with the finest disc golf set money could buy, the Franklin sports disc golf starter set from Walmart. My go-to disc for that round was of course the Albatross (I credit that disc for almost destroying my disc golf career before it ever started), it was completely unthrowable. Seeing my frustration, my brother handed me an Innova DX Beast on hole 11. After one throw, I was hooked. It didn’t go far, it didn’t come out smooth, it didn’t even go in...

Losing a disc is one of the worst feelings. Whether it is in a tree, river, lake, etc. it is the worst. So, to combat that, Adam Reesman invented a tool called The Disctreever. It is a disc retriever tool and has been sweeping all over social media, most recently with Paul and Hannah McBeth. Adam let me talk to him and pick his brain about his start and this amazing tool! Give it a read through and enjoy!

1) How did you get your start into Disc Golf?

My first round was back in 97 or 98, there was a park by my friends house and we used to go up there to play around and kill time, not really taking it serious. I didn’t start taking Disc Golf seriously until I had reconstructive surgery in 2004 on my shoulder and my physical therapist recommended I play twice a week to improve my range of motion and get my strength back.

2) Who or what inspires you to continue to play?

I love it all from watching the flight path to the sound of the chains to just being outside and getting some quality tim...

One of the best things about the sport of Disc Golf is that it is one of the best and widely spread sports there is. That being said, I got the chance to talk to Team DiscSport thrower and Discmania team writer, Anneli Tougjas from Estonia. She has an awesome story so give it a read and enjoy!

1) What got you into the sport of Disc Golf?

I didn't know much about this game, but a few years ago i got to try this game and i was hooked :) Everyone has a friend who plays, it's a great way to introduce this game to someone who doesn't know anything about it.

 2) Who or what inspires you to continue to play?

My biggest inspiration is actually my boyfriend, who will never let me fall apart mentally. Or if I do, then he can fix my mental game pretty quickly! When You have so positive minded person along side of You, then You just don't want to quit.

 3) What made you want to go pro?

I think saying "Pro" is too much for me. In Estonia, like 99% of us are amateurs. In my mind Pro is someone who can f...

When I interview people, I like to just talk about the game of Disc Golf, but, I try not to take up too much time as I know professionals and individuals are busy. However, I found someone who loves talking about this game more than anyone I have met so far. That individual is 2-time grandmaster world champion and Dynamic Discs thrower, Ron Convers Jr. Ron has had a long and historic career so far and will tell you it if you let him.  I let him tell me his story and here it is! Enjoy!

Ron’s start seems to be the same way we all start, with a friend. Ron’s friend and Ron were cooks for different branches of the same restaurant. Ron explained to me that “as an ice breaker coming out of high school, he introduced me to Disc Golf, he had some of the original Eagle molds and we went round and round with those back in 81’”. Like that he was hooked, he continued to play and has been playing Disc Golf for over 30 years now. However, with a career that long, there must be a secret formula or som...

There are not too many books about Disc Golf out there in the world today. However, I got the chance to talk to Innova thrower Michelle Jones who wrote the children's book "Gracie and the marvelous metal basket." She has an awesome story to tell and learning about a new book to read is always great. Enjoy!

1) How did you get into Disc Golf?

I played a couple times with friends in college. But, my husband Clay and I really started playing in 2001 when the company I was working for at the time moved us to a great little town near Cleveland, Ohio called Medina and Rosco Ewing Park Disc Golf Course was right near our house.  We got addicted quickly.  The addiction continued when we moved back to Ga in 2005. We played for 10 years without even keeping score.  It was more about having fun outside.

2) Who inspires you to keep playing?

This sport is like no other I have ever found.  It's a community.  A disc golf family that helps each other and gives back in so many ways.  I'm so...

When it comes to Disc Golf, the most important thing is form. Now, we all have different forms and ways to get the disc to go far. But, there are correct ways to do it. To help us out on the journey to form perfection is Danny Lindahl. Danny throws for Dynamic Discs and has a variety of videos out to help form and reviews for Discs as well. He may be young, but he has some great advice and a great story as well. Give it a read when you can and enjoy!

Danny has been playing Disc Golf for a few years now and got his start not too long ago. Danny told me that “it was the summer right towards the end of my senior year of high school and me and my brother were walking through academy and saw discs.” He did not go into too much detail on why the discs were there, but he goes on to say, “we picked them up and started playing, after that we bought basically every disc we could and played as much as we could.” He caught the bug hard, which, I think is something that happens to all of us at some...
